The Old Electric

Blackpool’s newest venue – a home for all kinds of creativity, community, culture and collaboration.

The Old Electric empowers a resilient local community to reimagine Blackpool through engaging, innovative, and socially driven arts experiences. We regularly create and showcase new work in Blackpool, sharing it across the UK and beyond. By focusing on high-quality, transformative projects, we aim to inspire individual creativity, remove barriers to accessing the arts, and provide professional development opportunities for emerging talent. Our commitment to collaboration helps us foster a vibrant hub of social connectivity, contribute to the town’s economy, and maintain the financial and organizational resilience needed to keep creativity thriving.

Part of The Electric Sunshine Project* CIC (TESP), founded by Melanie Whitehead in 2016, The Old Electric operates under the guidance of a dedicated team of directors and Associate Artists who bring wide-ranging expertise. We live by three core principles—innovation, illumination, and opportunity—which guide our engagement with local people, places, and creative partners. Rooted in the needs of our community, our work shines a new light on how we see ourselves and the world, nurtures healthy self-expression, and ensures accessible pathways for aspiring creatives. Through this focus on collaboration and support, The Old Electric builds long-term relationships that enrich Blackpool’s cultural landscape and cultivate a vibrant, forward-looking creative community.
